Speech recognition | Question re registry update

@Attagene , all,
when trying to apply the reg fix I run into an error message that "file cannot be imported. The file is not a registry file" or somesuch.
Win11. German, English (UK), English (US) language packs installed.
To make sure I do everything correctly (particularly when it comes to the text body in the new file) here is what I did:

Opened a new file (editor, Open Office, tried both) and pasted the following text
Text starts in next line with "Windows....", everything pasted is in brackets << >>, the brackets are not copied of course. Line breaks as below.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Recognizers]
"DefaultTokenId"="HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Speech\Recognizers\Tokens\MS-1033-80-DESK">>

So everything including the empty line betwenn "Windows" and "[HKEY..." etc. goes to the document.

Save document (doc name does not matter I guess)
Rename document ending to *.reg.
Open RegEditor
"Computer" view is collapsed underneath, cursor is on "Computer".
"Import" from the File menu.
Select my newly created and renamed to "Test.reg" document,
Get error message

Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

On my side, I used the default Windows Notepad and pasted the key as you did (I think Word or such do not save it as a "true" .txt file thus the extension of the file can't be changed afterwards).

The name of the file does not matter indeed.

When trying to rename as a .reg, make sure Windows asks you to confirm the extension modification. Agree to this and then your file's icon should be the same as the regedit icon (with little blue boxes).

Double click to open this file, Windows will then ask you if you want to add that key to your registry, click yes. It should display a message stating that the key has been added (if my memory serves me well).

Reboot your computer to make sure the speech reco loads correctly.

If all of this fails, could you send the error message displayed?

So if you confirm the text body I use is the correct one I am out of ideas. Everything I do according to instructions, yes, the icon changes to a reg icon after renaming it. I tried both with doubleclick and with "Import" via the reg editor.
Error message is (oh, of course I cannot just upload images here, sure), so:
"C:\Users\marti\Desktop\Speech1.reg can not be imported. The file is not a registry file.,
Registry files can only be imported within the registration-editor" (my transscript of my german error message).
