Interesting sectors

Hi all,

This sim has been a lot of fun. I've tried out a few sectors but I couldn't find anywhere in the manuals that state some interesting sectors. I've read through some of the hints and tips that explain some of this but I am curious what the community finds the most fun sectors to control.

BIG and WILLO bandboxed are good fun. Aeroplanes all over the place when it gets busy. You get LHR and LGW outbounds climbing on SIDs within 1000ft of each other which you then have to separate to get further climb but also not interfere with the BIG inbounds. And while you’re doing that someone inbound to Farnborough will bimble through. Not to mention City of course.

As for area control S5 is quite interesting. Mostly north/south with a pinch point around BCN. You often have inbounds to MAN and LPL from the south descending against BRS inbounds from the north. And then the military breeze by at an inconvenient level into BZZ. Atlantic traffic often passes E/W to/from London.

TRENT/STAFA in the midlands can get a bit tight as you sometimes need to vector aircraft close to the sector boundary to create space elsewhere so you need to keep eyes on the adjacent sector. Also in STAFA you have to climb traffic out of BHX whilst descending aircraft inbound to MAN and LBA.

FewCloudy Agreed with S5 and the west end in general - good fun!

S27/28/34 can be very busy. I find 28 always a bit stressful to get things climbed on headings and stream all the Liverpool / Manc inbounds, but good for speed control practice.

By contrast, S9 can be nice and relaxing - often on directs due to free route airspace and level separated - a case of giving a shortcut if possible and not much else.

TC wise, LAM can be good fun on its own: the stack seems to be the busiest for Heathrow, flows in all directions from Stansted, Luton and Heathrow outbound, plus Gatwick outbounds being climbed against all that and the Heathrow inbounds.

BNN also fun for the same reasons, while COWLY / WELIN can be fun combined. A bit like STAFA / TRENT, lots of traffic up, down and the odd bit of traffic to somewhere like Norwich that needs to cut across all the inbounds.

I don't know Scottish very well, but IOM sector always seems like there's stuff to do - headings for Manchester / LTMA inbounds, descent for Dublin traffic and climbs for everything else - even if it doesn't quite have the traffic of the London area, as well.

JSJ I agree with you JSJ , S27/28/34 , All together is challenging in controlling and interesting at the same time . i am ACC guy , so i like higher sector may favorite is 09 combined with 06 to have more challenging in issuing a descent clearance to make the traffic meet the level requirement by OTMET. or some other way-point . sector 04 is so busy sector , there's Lot of work in terms of coordination , last but not least sector 10 combined with 11

speaking about relaxing sector , YES i agree 09 one of those sector has a free route , BUT more relaxing is Shannon FIR .
sector SOTAE combined with SOTAW . Or NOTA ,

Max If memory serves - over GODLU/BIG S15 with S2 above and over WILLO, S18 and then S1/24 above.

If it helps, S17 feeds in high-level traffic from France to descend into TCs VATON and BIG from the south, also handing off Birmingham / Midlands traffic to S25.

Not off the top of my head no, sorry! The documents section of the London Control website has good maps of the sector boundaries so I would check those out.
